St. Paul's United Methodist Church St. Paul's has the distinction of being one of the oldest of the churches in Ridgeland. Its heritage of Methodism was handed down from several churches of the earlier date served by those pioneer travelers in God's cause know as "circuit riders." With the advent of the railroad, the settlement of "Gopher Hill" received a more dignified name, Ridgeland. The area around the depot began to grow rapidly. In 1890, Julius G. Sipple of Grahamville, inspired a small band of local Methodists to organize a separate church in Ridgeland and St. Paul's was completed and dedicated in 1894. In 1949, a new church edifice of brick, complete with educational plant, carillon system, organ, dining hall & kitchen was generously given by two members, Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Ellis.
