Sonshine Preschool
Sonshine Preschool The preschool period (ages 2, 3, 4 and 5) is a time of growth, sharing, and creative learning for the child. Because each child is unique, we feel it is natural and necessary to help him know himself as a person of value and worth. The children at Sonshine Preschool will learn in a Christian environment. Our preschool is set up to provide a flow of experiences, beginning with what the child already knows, and continuing with many new and varied activities that provide readiness for future learning. Our program is characterized by flexibility and creativity rather than rigidly structured sequences. The program is one of variety and balance. Emphasis is placed on individual and small group learning experiences, through the use of learning centers, and total group actions. The preschool child should be physically involved in his own learning rather then sitting and listening to the teacher’s presentations. Activities in art, music, creative expression, and nature study are incorporated into the program along with center activities, outdoor free play, field trips and math activities. Additionally, the Sonshine Preschool program is designed to provide a child with maximum opportunities to increase his language skills. Communication skills are enhanced as he shares experiences with the teachers, as he paints, or as he dances to music. A good program encourages the child to think for himself. Originality in expression is one of the goals of the Sonshine Preschool program. Regarding discipline; through the use of a positive approach incorporating substitution, flexibility, brief separation from the group, and guidance by the teacher, most problems can be avoided or quickly solved.
